Mecca Bingo gains new MD - Online Bingo News
Mecca Bingo has appointed a new Managing Director, Mark Jones, to replace the outgoing Simon Wykes who left the UK bingo operator last month.
Mark Jones comes from a background in the hospitality industry, and has worked with PLC companies including Pizza Hut and the Yates Group as Chief Executive, and most lately as Executive Chairman of Premium Bars and Restaurants.
Rank Group CEO, Ian Burke said, "Mecca Bingo has faced a number of challenges in recent years but, having stabilised performance we are now seeking to move forward, broadening our customer reach through product and service innovation."
"Mark's extensive experience in the leisure retail sector will be invaluable to us as he leads Mecca Bingo into this new phase in its development."
Rank is a leader in the European gaming industry and has 103 licensed bingo clubs in Britain under the Mecca Bingo name and it employs approximately 3,000 people serving an approximate 900,000 customers annually. Mark Jones will take up the direct operational management of these 103 Mecca bingo halls. The news of this appointment resulted in shares in the rank Group plc gaining 1.56% to 65 pence per share in London.
Mecca Bingo will probably be offering a wider range of products to create a larger customer base under Mr. Jones’ stewardship, given his earlier experience. In the light of recent closures of numerous bingo clubs, some from the Mecca stable too, it is likely that many innovations and fresh ideas will be implemented by Mr. Jones to rejuvenate the fortunes of Mecca Bingo in the UK.
