Argentina moves to block online gambling - Online Bingo News

Argentina is starting to move towards the prohibition of online bingo, casino and gambling sites in the country. Last week a bill was proposed in the Argentinian capital, Buenos Aires, with the aim of banning all forms of online gambling in the province.

Another similar bill has just been presented to the Argentinian state from Santa Fe, calling for penalties to be given for local Internet Service Provider companies that allow Argentinian citizens access to online gambling websites, including bingo, casino, poker and sportsbetting. Suggested penalties for local companies that breach the proposed bill range from fines for small demeanours up to prison terms for larger offenders.

The man behind the bill, Councillor Luis Alberto Mauri,  said, "We understand that gambling is a part of social behaviour and increasingly popular online, but the fact that citizens in our province have access to this method of gambling does not mean that the State should refrain from excercising control over it."

Councillor Mauri believes that it is the State's responsibility to guarantee that such games as online bingo, poker or casino, are offered only through legal channels, thereby ensuring that the State can collect taxes to invest in local social programs.
