Google and Yahoo face lawsuit over gambling ads - Online Bingo News

A reported $31.5 million settlement by Google and Yahoo! over alleged online gambling advertising infringements may not be the last of the issue for the two Internet search giants as an ongoing 2004 class-action lawsuit is due to be heard in February.
The lawsuit was filed at the California Superior Court in 2004 and alleges that Google and Yahoo! received hundreds of millions of dollars when they allowed online gambling advertisements on their search engine pages. Some of those adverts may have involved online bingo and free online bingo games.
Speaking of the recent settlement, Reed Kathrein, the attorney in the case bringing the lawsuit said: "We believe these companies have been profiting from this illegal practice for more than a decade, and we believe the agreement with the government does not go far enough.
“The settlements are a great victory and a tacit admission by these online advertisers, but there is still more work to do in holding these companies accountable for the harm they have done to Californians, and to keep them and others from continuing these practices.
"Given the amounts the huge profits we believe they made, we believe these relatively small forfeiture penalties will not deter them or others in the future."
