New UK gambling take effect - Online Bingo News

Online gambling sites, including free online bingo sites, are now coming to terms with the implications of the UK’s new gambling laws which allow for TV advertising.

The Gambling Act 2005 is now in full force and is aimed at providing protection for children while keeping crime low and the games fair. The UK online bingo industry is already a well regulated sector of the UK online gambling industry and the new laws are seen to provide even greater oversight in maintaining industry integrity.

However, the new Gambling Act has come in for some criticism by government opposition. The Liberal Democrats are accusing the government of not addressing potential problems now that previous restrictions on TV adverts allow casinos, online gaming and betting sites and other online bingo operators to launch TV commercials.

While some gambling websites do have plans to begin TV advertising campaigns, there has not been a noticeable increase in this type of advertising since the law came into effect on September 1.

The Gambling Act 2005 covers nearly all forms of gambling including arcades, bingo, betting, casinos, online gambling and gambling in pubs and clubs. It also hands local authority licensing officers extra powers for the inspecting of gambling premises.
