British girl wins Chinese X Factor show

I was playing online bingo yesterday, when one of my chat mates told me about this stunning young British girl who has won the X Factor TV show in China. 19 year old Mary Jess Leverland seems to be China’s answer to Leona Lewis and after listening to her sing on YouTube, I have to agree.

Mary Jess won Jiangsu province's equivalent of the X Factor by singing in Mandarin. She is fluent in Mandarin and Italian and had to spend a year in China as part of her course; Mary Jess is taking a degree in Chinese and music at Sheffield University.

She is yet to be offered any million pound record deal, but after her appearance on BBC, that just might change. What Mary Jess has discovered, however, is that it is nearly impossible for her to step out of her home in China without being trailed for autographs. She said, 'It is really strange, but nice. It was the most exciting thing I have done in my life.'

The young lady won the first prize on the X Factor show which is known in China as Min Xing Chang Fan Tian, which translates as I Want to Sing to the Stars. The song that won her the prize was the theme song to the film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Yue Guang Ai Ren (Moonlight Lovers).

Mary Jess won a trophy, a cash prize of £3,000 as well as a CD recording of herself. She had taken part in a singing competition last year and the producers of the Chinese X Factor were so impressed with her singing that she received an invitation to audition!

£3,000 is a tidy sum if you can win it; unfortunately, I couldn’t sing a true note if my life depended on it. Thank God for X Factor; I mean the X Factor slots; anyone could play the online slot game and win – especially with the recent truckload of winners at top bingo site Wink Bingo!
